"Immortal Fitness (IF) is great and I highly recommend it! It's a nice solid space to work out at. Feels just very easy to get your workout and go! At IF, people are really friendly and Matt the owner is super nice. There's also very easy free parking. I used to belong to the Berkeley YMCA but that felt like such a production to go to and parking could be really challenging sometimes and you had to pay for it. I am so amazed at how easy it feels to get a workout in here! You just walk right in and it is at street level. Weight machine, weights and a number of other basic equipments. I am very happy I have joined."

They have the best rates! $10 for a four hour pass?? Who needs a gym membership with access like that?? (Their monthly rates are super reasonable too tho- $55 for an individual monthly unlimited -- 24 hour access!!!???) Seriously best deal in town. And they have everything you need in a pretty compact space but it's not overcrowded. Love this place. Just wandered in today because my gym was closed and I'm definitely switching.

Small but well equipped gym, personalized training, excellent vibe. Matt is knowledgable, supportive, and skilled in training as well as encouragement. Training is tailored to the individual, making it a very comfortable and effective place to work out from teenagers to seniors! Never crowded (so far). Highly recommend!

I had an amazing experience with Matt Curtis (the owner of the gym). He was very helpful friendly he showed me around. And would highly recommend this place for those looking for a local gym for open gym & personal training.
Matt is an excellent personal trainer. Helped me reach my fitness goal of losing at least 20 lbs and a few inches in my torso area. Great listener. Excellent facility. Parking is free and in the back so that’s a plus too.

I LOVE being a member of Immortal Fitness. 1.5 years ago, I decided I really needed to get off my butt and into the gym. But I also knew I needed 3 things to be successful: 1.) Real, customized support and personal training (to help me overcome my fear of the gym and limiting beliefs around my athleticism) 2.) A gym in walking distance of my house in Elmwood Berkeley (because if I needed to get in my car and find parking, I would never go - though to be fair, there is easy parking around Immortal) 3.) Something that wouldn't break the bank, but would be an investment (so I would feel compelled to go regularly) Immortal Fitness (and especially my amazing trainer Matt Wright) checked all of those boxes times 1,000! Matt is not only a knowledgable and skilled trainer, he is also a walking pep talk. He pushes me (both on trying a higher weight to lift - I am now up to 200lbs on the leg press!) but to be my favorite self in my life and business too. I frequently walk out of our 2x weekly 30-minute sessions feeling strong, fired up, and ready to face the day. The gym has everything that you need, including a supportive community. If you are looking for a local, affordable gym in the Elmwood/telegraph neighborhood, Immortal Fitness is for you!

Workout twice weekly with Matt for the last five years. It's what keeps me healthy and fit at 81.
I’ve been a member at Immortal Fitness for a while now, and my experience has been completely different from what’s described here. I actually joined because I wanted a **smaller, quieter gym**, and that’s exactly what this place is. If you’re looking for a massive corporate gym packed with people and long waits for machines, then sure, this might not be your style. But for those of us who prefer a more private, low-traffic environment, it’s great. The 24/7 access is one of the best parts. I work odd hours, so being able to come in late at night or early in the morning without it being crowded is a huge plus. I’ve never had issues getting in with my access code since becoming a member. As for the equipment, it’s a smaller gym but it has everything needed for a solid workout: free weights, cardio machines, and the core strength equipment. I’ve used the leg press and treadmills regularly without any problems. The staff also seem responsive when equipment needs attention. Another thing I appreciate is the **community vibe**. Because it’s not a huge chain gym, you actually start recognizing the people who work out there and it feels more comfortable and less intimidating than some larger gyms. For $55 a month, having **24/7 access, a quiet environment, and no overcrowding** is honestly a good deal in this area. It’s not trying to be a giant luxury fitness club—it’s a straightforward gym where you can come in, focus on your workout, and leave. If you’re someone who values privacy and convenience, Immortal Fitness is definitely worth checking out.

Visiting from out of town and wanted to avoid dealing with the hassle that comes with a commercial gym. Immortal Fitness allowed me to purchase a very reasonably priced week pass online, staff were friendly and helpful, and the gym is clean and easily accessible. It is no frills BUT has everything you need to get your workout in without sales pitches, stacks of paperwork, or harassment from other patrons. Highly recommend!

This gym has everything you need. Matt Wright (Personal Trainer Staff) is the best. Welcoming, friendly, low-key vibe.
